San Miguel con el Diablo is the title of this wonderful hojalata (tin) sculpture by talented Oaxacan artisan Alfonso Santiago. San Miguel has a silver halo and gold embossed wings, with a blue tunic and green shield. The devil is appropriately red with gold embossed wings. It is anchored on a rectangular base, and is lacquered to protect the finish. Approximate dimensions: 9" Long x 4" Wide x 13" High.

The figures,very intricately made, are painted bright colors - - the artist's style resembles the tin man in the movie "The Wizard of Oz." Highly praised Oaxacan artisan Avelino Perez had created these imaginative pumpkin head monks. The monk on the left wears a brown robe and seems to be smiling and waving hello and the monk on the right is wearing a black robe and appears to be sadly saying adios. Note the Dia de los Muertos skeleton hands and necks - - the two carvings show a bit of Oaxacan humor. Approximate dimensions for each carving: 9" High x 3" Wide.

This unusual carving of a toucan sitting on a watermelon has been created by the talented Mixe group of artisans from Oaxaca. The bird is beautifully painted with a soft, natural sheen. The toucan's back feathers are black and gray and its breast finely detailed in yellow and white. Its beak is orange, green, brown and white. The watermelon is a nice, luscious red, with just a few seeds. Approximate dimensions of watermelon and toucan: 12" Long x 6" Wide x 10" High

Well-known Oaxacan artisan Moises Jimenez ' armadillo carving adds just the right touch of color to a collection of Oaxacan folkart. This unusual armadillo has a black body with a combination of both a pale yellow oval and line design. The surprise is the red head, legs and tail detailed with Jimenez' signature line design.
