Oaxacan artisan Eleazar Morales has a vivid imagination, and this meerkat shows this to advantage. The painting, which is a departure from the natural coloring of the animal, is green tones with circular line designs on the front and the back and tail are turquoise with a darker turquoise freeform pattern. Eyes are orange with a turquoise detailed nose and pink whiskers. Approximate dimensions: 6" Wide (with tail) x 2" Wide x 7" High. A wonderfully detailed carving.

The devil is a favorite subject for Oaxacan artisan Avelino Perez, and his two campesinos show his originality. #49-14 (on the left) is a campesino with an ax over his shoulder and #49-15 (on the right) is a campesino with a pick over his shoulder. Each is dressed in white, with brown sandals on his feet. Devil horns protrude from their tan hats and their faces, feet and hands are the expected "devil red." Each is approximately 7-1/2" high, including horns.

Oaxacan artisan Avelino Perez is well-known for his carvings of devils, and this is a fine example of his work. His Bishop has a yellow robe with brown trim and a cross hanging from his neck; a cup is in his outstretched hand. His miter is white, with gray horns protruding. The carving's head and hands are the requisite red. Approximate dimensions: 9" high, with horns; 3-1/2" wide at widest arm width; and 3" deep, from the back to the front edge of the cup.
